Thunderbolt was announced in early spring, 2011, by Apple. It was developed by Intel and Apple.

Features:

• Originally named Light Peak
• 10Gbps per channel transfer rate.
• Bi-directional data flow.
• Utilizes PCIe and DisplayPort protocols
• Features daisy-chaining for devices, up to a total of 7.
• Utilizes both electrical and optical (fiber optic) cables.
